a woman's skin her best disguise, they say

Today on SGA, we reached the episode where John turns into a bug. (It is very seriously boring how sci-fi transformations for men are so often accompanied by attack-snogging the attractive women they work with. Just stop please.)
2x07 Instinct & 2x08 Conversion
"Instinct" is a really good episode. I felt really sorry for both Ellia and her father, and I remember been really surprised by the twists the first time I watched this. I liked how in the end absolutely everyone (except the Wraith, I suppose) was doing their best for each other. Cuties!
Eleanor wants me to note her approval of Ronon with a sword, even if he never actually used it this episode. More characters in sci-fi should carry swords.
...I'm sorry though, I can't not laugh at the magic retroviruses. Or at the underground Science with bubbling beakers. I'm a biologist, what can I say. SCIENCE.
Anyway, great episode.
"Conversion", however... Well, it's very hard to take an episode seriously when your darling girlfriend is loudly appending "John's turning into a bug!" onto the end of characters' lines whenever possible. And making bug noises. And pretending to pincer me with her hand while going, "Look, I'm biting you and turning into a Frith!"
And this gem:
E: I know it won't happen, but I really want John to have to eat the bug eggs.
F: Mean.
E: It would be really funny, though! I mean, after Carson's done his magic science to them to make them turn John back. Then he should have to eat them.
We've also started accidentally shipping Elizabeth/Caldwell. We enjoy Elizabeth being very firmly In Charge.

Date: 2015-02-05 12:40 am (UTC)I went into his shop the other day and he had made a vacuum chamber out of a glass jar with tubes going into it. Then he plugged it in and now it had an electrical arc in it.
Him: Stand back, it's high voltage!
Me: Well, this is science with a capital exclamation point.
(I think he's planning to electrolyze ... something? God knows.)
