Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general.
Or more than one. I'm not fussy.
Question can be as wacky as you want. Ask me about tv shows, characters, fanfic in general, fandom issues/meta, anything about any of my stories specifically. Whatever you want.
If it's a fandom-specific question, you can ask me about anything I'm familiar with ... SGA being my main current fandom, but also Sanctuary, NCIS, SG1, SGU, nBSG, any CSI, Firefly, Doctor Who, Torchwood, Discworld, and anything else you know I'm into that I've forgotten to put on this list.

Date: 2010-01-06 12:37 am (UTC)I'm also intermittently working on two chaper-fics... one's called 'Webs' and one's called 'Full Fathom Five', neither of which are particularly subtle titles, so you may be able to work out some of the stories from them.
And yes, plenty of Rodney whump! But also other characters, because I'm worried that I'll get into a corner of only being able to write Rodney while he's being whumped, so I'm trying to avoid that.

Date: 2010-01-06 01:03 pm (UTC)Personally, though, I do. In general it's an interesting story, if I just ignore the bits with Young and his wife. The morals are presented as more ambiguous than in previous Stargates, and, well, it's Robert Carlyle! I mean, the writing still isn't that great, and, while they're certainly not doing the Atlantis scene of giving no backstory at all for their leads, the balance probably tips a bit far in the opposite direction.
But then, I'm actually liking it more than I did with SG1 at this point, and about level with how I felt about SGA. So I'm thinking that it'll probably pick up the pace in the second half of the season - it seems to have just before the midseason break.
And the visuals, especially the CGI, are stunning. I'd almost watch it just for that! Also for Carlyle, and although the writers are still stumbling a bit with general romance, it's much better than previously, particluarly with Camile and Sharon, which came as a surprise to me (I'm jaded). So, to use examples of other things I currently watch, I'd rate it below Sanctuary and NCIS, but above House and CSI Miami...

Date: 2010-01-07 12:12 am (UTC)Basically, I see him as being one of those people who end up knowing *everything* - after all, he's there to see teams come home hurt, covered in mud, wearing strange native costumes... so he probably has a large stack of gossip up his sleeve. That said, he's probably good at *not* spreading it around, which would be why he was the 'banker' in Midway - every work environment ends up having official or unofficial bets/pools, and he probably arbitrates most of them.
He doesn't go on missions, but at some point Rodney, in a fit of business, will have insisted that everyone goes offworld at least once, so Chuck went to the Alpha site. He was a bit disappointed to find it wasn't as alien as he'd expected - in fact, it just reminded him of British Colombia.

Date: 2010-01-07 07:15 pm (UTC)One of the things about fandom seems to be that there are a couple of traits for each character which get jumped on to the exclusion of anything else, although in some cases the writers only focus on that one trait! Ie every Amelia fic I've seen has her kickboxing, there are loads and loads of Lorne-the-artist etc.
So because I've basically given a non-answer so far: I'll say the fact that Elizabeth doesn't seem to accept the harsh realities of Pegasus for a very long time, long after all the other characters and the audience. I'd like to see her being forced to face that reality, or explaining why she doesn't want to admit it, or something.
Probably not a good answer, but the best I could come up with! Feel free to ask more questions! *g*
