Lost Tomb eps 11-12

Thank you, first half of ep 11, for giving me almost everything I want re hurt/comfort that I usually only get in fic.


- Pangzi pulling Wu Xie up and Wu Xie beginning to fold and Pangzi and Kylin supporting him together! And then he continues hanging onto Pangzi after that!

- Big fight! I enjoyed it!

- Very convenient rescue in the nick of time! And Wu Xie being heroic and self-sacrificing and saving Liu Sang (why are they calling him Jinx now??) and everyone being Very Stressed (I loved xparrot's description of him being super hard to keep alive, like an orchid or something)

- EXPLOSION! And Wu Xie half-conscious like that, and then he DID get tucked up in bed, which I something I very much needed for him after everything he's gone through lately. Loved literally everyone standing around waiting for him to wake up. And then he wanted to talk about preserving the artifacts, omg you dork.

- Can't wait for the Scientific Explanation of the princess. More crabs? Surely even this show can't try and pin everything on the hand crabs.

- Some stuff happened in the village. Ok.

- Loved everyone getting to hang out and relax in the bar! That was such a sweet scene, it felt super real, almost like a BTS but for the characters.

- The veeeeery looooong flashback turned out to be even less fun to watch than the village plotline. We finally get some more women? They make bad decisions because of being in a boring love triangle with Sanxing? We really needed THIS MUCH of it?? At least they cut back every now and then to kind-of-drunk Wu Xie.

- Then I went back and watched the first half of ep 11 again.

This is 100% my reaction too down to "oh I see why they said the script writer wasn't good at women". Truly, when you've worked the better part of a year to make the greatest archeological find of the century what REALLY matters is which of you your colleague fancies. >_>

ANYWAY. XIAO XIE!! In ep 11 where everyone is calling his name because he goes FLOP his uncle called him Xiao Xie and I think that's very cute. <3<3<3

And of course I immediately had to go gif the holding scene. Ahhhhh~~~ <3

Yes! I was also finding the Xiao-Xie really adorable <3 And him being held with everyone bending over him anxiously!

I really hope someone went back in to make sure he stayed in bed, since he immediately sat up to look at the skin girl. Bb lie down, you're in super bad shape.

I hope that flashback finishes soon. I have realised with some resignation that overlong flashbacks seem to be a cdrama convention. Can we ditch them in favour of more h/c. Also I found it deeply annoying that even though the woman who's name I have already forgotten was in charge everyone was constantly calling on Sanxing to solve all the problems and make the decisions. I mean, accidentally accurate to real life, BUT STILL.

Minor but super interesting to me point: I assume in the village plotline they're using Chinese Sign Language, but there's a really really large overlap with British Sign (both specific signs and the grammar structure), which I wasn't aware was the case -- American Sign for instance is hugely different from BSL so it's interesting that CSL seems to be pretty close! ...this has been my main focus during this plotline.

Overly long and boring flashbacks were the biggest problem with Lost Tomb 2. This one at least timed it better (in LT2 they were put in the middle of the tomb raid, bringing the action to a screeching halt, and they showed stuff that had already been related in detail - like if 2nd Uncle had to his story verbally to Wu Xie, and then they showed the flashback.) So yeah when this one started we moaned with dread, but at least it seems like it will be over next episode!

I've been very curious about what sign language they were using, I don't know enough to recognize anything! Very interesting that CSL might be like BSL...

Oh interesting, according to wiki https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Sign_Language they're not directly related but they do have a bunch of grammar and elements in common?

Yeah, lots of the vocab words have been the same as BSL, although I'm not good enough to follow what they're saying without also using the subs. I'm pleased I was right about the grammar too, because I'm not very strong on that at all, mostly I know a lot of keywords. (This is how we use signing at my school, as a reinforcer of the key points you're verbally making in another format, rather than speaking BSL.)

We seem to have pretty much caught up on the flashbacks to where the tape recordings showed, so hopefully not much more to go. They are DIRE and I hate this catty love competition so much. (The flashbacks are also the main things that mar Detective L for me, just waaaaay too much.)

One thing about the flashback that amuses me is that like, no shots of it are in any of the previews or promo materials? (A couple brief action shots from it, that's it). Likewise Sunglasses' plotline is barely there. They totally know no one cares or wants to see this stuff. But given the shooting schedule they needed to do something that didn't involve the stars!

The awful love triangle though, ugh. More female characters would be good, but not like this!

And so far they seem to be making the effort to have the Iron Triangle together in at least one scene (even if they needed a hallucination to do it!) So here's hoping that continues! At any rate there is definitely more to come...like, the spoiler pic I got that is still killing me slowly is not a scene in any of the previews (they're in different outfits!)

Ahahah sorry, I really am! Except also not because fannish pain (honestly it's probably just me, you'd see it and go "... That's it?" ^^;)(basically, just, ep 11 is not the last time Wu Xie gets held 😄)

ETA: but honestly if it's bothering you to be hearing it I will stop now, I know this kind of thing can get really annoying, and I get not wanting spoilers and wanting the joy of being surprised in the show! Sorry for any frustration, I'll try to be good!)

Honestly the opening of ep 11 is worth the price of boring and sexist flashbacks for me, just, so good?! The staggering and Wu Xie's heroism and also blowing himself up and the shouting of names and the holding!!

I think calling hearing guy "Jinx" is a sign they're warming to him, as they all use nicknames anyway (I seriously do not know what Pangzi's real name even is??) And he did get them grabbed by shellfish earlier (that was less jinxing and more being a dick, but...)

The hanging out at the bar was so sweet. And then again, if we have to get a flashback, at least we're occasionally rewarded by cutting back to Zhu Yilong looking gorgeous. They do still know their audience...(Wu Xie's alcohol tolerance is so much better than Shen Wei's! ...ZYL's is more like Shen Wei's from what he's said 😁)

Oh, is jinxing a word for playing tricks as well? I only know it as when you say something at the same time as someone else. That makes sense!

I really loved the whole bar scene! It was so fun. And yeah, at least they did keep cutting back every now and then.

And I know I have already been screaming about the ep 11 stuff on chat but SO GOOD! That is the sort of sequence I always desperately want to see but so rarely gets filmed in full. This show is Really Committed to the h/c and I have so much approval of it. (And we haven't even got to any of the many many bleeding and fainting scenes which were in the trailer! ...I said I showed the trailer to Ellie and she started laughing at how many there were.) I'm looking forward to them going to find the next tomb!

Oh, yeah, a jinx is a bad-luck charm! The "jinx" of saying things at the same time is just a joke that doing so is unlucky. Calling someone a jinx is saying they bring bad luck. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jinx (I didn't know that was an Americanism! Live and learn...)

I can scream so much more about the first part of 11!! So good, and yes, so much what I always want that we so rarely get (...have you ever seen Starsky and Hutch? That's the most comparable thing. But Zhu Yilong is so much prettier than those guys... 😆 I love that not only are we getting some of the most indulgent h/c like...ever...but it's with one of my favorite actors, who I love in part because he is SO good at it. ...he goes limp so convincingly!)

I still want to know if the trailer is for just s1 or for the whole show, I'm wonder how long we'll have to wait for some of those shots!
