A screaming post!


- I have noticed cdramas seem to be good for the hurt/comfort, but this is ON ANOTHER LEVEL. It is amazing. I am legit worried for Wu Xie and need him to be tucked up in bed for a good long while after this. At least he got a coat tucked around him and fed last episode. For a bit.

- This is a very scientific show with scientific explanations for everything. Like how the corpses are piloted around by hand-crabs. SCIENCE.

- I seriously can't believe the amount of h/c tropes packed into this show. I appreciate them all, and especially I appreciate how many are focused on Wu Xie. And I very much enjoy Kylin looking Extremely Concerned at him all the time.

- That whole bit in ep 10 with Wu Xie having a breakdown and then hallucinating and then fighting Pangzi and trying to snap out of it, aaaaaaaaaaaa SO GOOD. Him rolling on the floor in agony was also very good.

- I have literally no idea what the point of Sunglass Guy's plotline is.

They are having ALL the h/c tropes I AM SO HAPPY.

Things I adore that they've done:

- The presumed dead! The presumed SEEING YOUR FRIENDS DIE! And with extra guilt!
- The blindess with the trust between the three (and the banter when Wu Xie went blind too)
- The bugs that get you through all stages of being blackout drunk in five minutes OMG
- PANGZI TALKING DOWN A FERAL WU XIE aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa that bit was SO GOOD when he couldn't even take the punch because he knows his Tianzhen isn't doing it on purpose and then he made Wu Xie stop mid-swing skjfshgkjfhghsjkh MY FEEEEEEEEEELS

So many good h/c tropes!! And aaaaaaaaa yes Wu Xie having a breakdown and then being completely out of it and attacking Pangzi and then just sitting in the water looking so wrecked.

The smashing his head against the wall to signal to Kylin! The aftermath of the first long hallucination scene where he was struggling to focus! The crawling through tunnels and all the bits of Wu Xie suffering from plot-disease-consumption! And we haven't even got to any of the scenes from the trailer where his face is constantly covered in blood and bruises yet!!

I am frothing at the thought that we still have MORE TO COME including him being captured by bad guys? I think??

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

But yeah I am SO happy about the fact that the worst imaginable scenario for Wu Xie is being unable to save his friends from dying and how shaken he was when he was snapping out of it...

And then when he's blind and sitting around fumbling with things - I'm glad he had a blanket and hot noodles because he needs SUCH a break right now.

I really hope there will be some manly hugs at the start of 11 to help Wu Xie get over almost killing Pangzi.

Oooh yes and bashing his skull against the rock wall to signal was also quite lovely.

I'm so glad none of the dungeon crawls or monsters are setting off my fear of horror, because so far I'm just thoroughly enjoying that whole storyline even if it makes very little sense. (Clearly it makes more sense if you just go MAGIC or CURSE but...sure...a crab piloted corpse is VERY scientific...?)

Oh yeah I am loving how they are justifying things SCIENTIFICALLY. The murals make you hallucinate because of tiny bugs in them that go into your eyes! The leather people are steered around by hand-crabs! Kylin's knife set a rock wall on fire because he's Just That Awesome!

Wu Xie really needs some hugs right now. I am utterly delighted by how woobie he is. I have spent the last few episodes kind of half-expecting him to keel over at any moment given how much he's already been through. And this is less than a third of the season!

There's a whole meta on It Was Aliens All Along waiting to happen. (No, seriously - the god of thunder coming from the sky to tell you secrets? Very Stargate. And since magic is forbidden...well.)

I am utterly delighted by how woobie he is.
A brave woobie! A fighty little toaster! He needs hugs and his Third Uncle back but also I'm happy there's another many episodes of this to go.

The first half of ep 10 I was just rolling around going are we EVER getting back to the Iron Triangle?! (I don't get Sunglasses'story either, though I expect it will catch up eventually, some of the previews showed WX in a jungle?)

But then the ep got back to them and OHHHH... That fight, OWWWWWW. Especially Pangzi having a chance to get a hit in but can't actually punch his Tianzhen even when Wu Xie is trying to kill him. (And he's like this now before he even knows he's sick!)

And then Xiaoge to the rescue, and he's helping both of them...

Did you see the interview with ZYL when he was saying that he couldn't really play Wu Xie as sick as he should be, because it would be too exhausting to watch...so yeah, he's toning it down??

Really I don't even know what they're doing next when they've already hit this many h/c tropes... Can't wait to find out!!

The trailers/preview images included Wu Xie tied to a chair so I imagine he gets beaten up at some point? And there were also all the clips of him bleeding from his face and then fainting, so I think we've got a lot to look forward to...

This latest ep was doing a lot for me h/c-wise even before we got to the fight, with Pangzi having clearly wrapped Wu Xie up in that big jacket and fed him. Which he so definitely needed.

I love that this is ZYL toning it down. He understands his audience!

What I want to know is if all the previews were from the first season of the show, or from the whole thing and we'll have to wait until s2 for like the nosebleed (ahhhh!) And him getting kidnapped, yesss (there was also one shot of an explosion and Xiaoge shielding him with his body...)

Pangzi feeding him is very cute (Wu Xie needs to eat more onscreen! Because then we know ZYL is getting nourishment 😂)

I have watched up to ep 10 (except fastforwarded through Sunglasses Guy because I have no fucks to give) and I Can Scream Along \o/

Zhu Yilong blind and wet looked ethereally gorgeous, I mean WOW I am going to have to go back and make screencaps. Again. AND that's saying something, considering he looks gorgeous in pretty much every closeup. The lighting on this show is SO good.

Also very much appreciate the h/c tropes and the way they go NON STOP - straight from blind to can see again but now violently hallucinating, yes bring it ON.

And Pangzi's handling of the violent hallucination was so sweet, the complete "you couldn't hurt me" trope, and it worked, bless him.

This show is REALLY committed to the h/c tropes and it is a DELIGHT.

I caved and got the VIP so I’m finally getting caught up and UGH the friendship! I love these nerds so much! And yes, Science. I am not A Scientist, so I’ll just accept Science here. Although to be fair I would accept anything coming from Zhu Yilong.

I am a biologist (well I was before I decided small children were more fun and quit my job at a pharma company a year out of uni) but I completely Do Not Care about fictional science. If it's entertaining I'll go with it! And ANIMATED BY CRABS is definitely entertaining.

As you say, Zhu Yilong's face is the Most Important thing in this show anyway!

In the first series there are “blood men” — aka zombies aka men/robbers who have been killed and “paper men” — like the tomb guardians in the reboot. Although I can’t remember what animates the paper men. I just let it go. It may have been tomb bugs, which look more like horseshoe crabs in the first series.

Whatever, it’s not magic, that’s for sure! Oh, I finished up a Chinese police procedural last night, and there was an episode set in a “haunted” hotel, and one character says, when asked if he believes in ghosts, “We are police officers and party members! We don’t believe in ghosts!” -_-
