30 Days of Guardian Day 2: Favourite case

The one with the ultrasound noises and the little girl and the wedding and the mind-control... good thing this question isn't "most coherent case" XD But it facilitates so many excellent scenes, including Shen Wei being super badass, Zhao Yunlan being clever, super awkward conversations, and Shen Wei coughing blood.

Also I really liked it for Zhao Yunlan being unhappy with both Shen Wei and the Envoy for different reasons (even though he was pretty sure by then that they were the same person). He really didn't want the Envoy to arrest the little girl and it was *such* a relief (for him and the audience) to afterwards know that mercy was being shown.

Also! This case arc had Zhao Yunlan touching the Awl and then swooning in Shen Wei's arms *and* Shen Wei being unhelpful to the cause of science by messing up Lin Jing's scan. Which weren't really related to the case I guess other than Zhu Jiu being related to the case in a very nebulous sort of way. It's a good job I wasn't watching this show for the cases, really.

And also ZHAO YUNLAN WHEN DID YOU LEARN TO PLAY THE VIOLIN? I kinda wish that timelines made sense for him to have picked up that skill purely to mess with Shen Wei. (And I'm kinda sad it never comes up anywhere else in the series.)

I kind of assumed he was just messing with it rather than playing it properly? Otoh I can see bb!Yunlan having violin lessons and then dropping them when he became a teenager. (Bai Yu plays a saxophone in Detective L!)

I assumed that he was just air-playing the violin and actually had a recording playing off his phone or something to lure Shen Wei in, but no, he never pauses a recording or anything, and the music stops as soon as he takes the bow away from the strings. And if I recall the episode correctly, it has to be good enough that Shen Wei goes "Ah, someone who can play the violin is here; I know who that must be" and not "What is someone doing to that poor violin?"

Yunlan is just impossibly extra. But, I mean, that's why we love him.

I mean, Shen Wei is also incredibly extra, so they go well together.

I love how everyone here is just unabashed about how much we love seeing Shen Wei cough up blood.

I mean the fic I posted earlier in the week started purely as an excuse to write a lot of that.

He looks so prettyyyyyy when he does it...

Plus all of Chinese fandom, like, the number of questions Zhu Yilong fields about coughing up blood -- nice to know we're not alone! XD

I saw this gifset on Tumblr last month and now I think of the reaction gif at the bottom Every. Single. Time. and it makes me lol.

I personally think the moment Zhao Yunlan really falls in love -- that he goes from "cannot wait to tap that" to "I want an actual relationship" -- is when he sees the girl and her guardian just standing there on the street and realizes that Shen Wei is absolutely as big a softy as Zhao Yunlan himself is, under that cloak and mask...

Awww, yes, I can definitely see that :) :) Which makes sense because I'm 100% convinced they get together over the next couple of episodes.

Yeah, for all I believe in a loose interpretation of Guardian canon...I am so convinced that they get together in eps 14-15 that I kind of mentally categorize any other versions as "canon AU" ^^;

I just finished rewatching this case arc and my favorite part is all the awkward conversations! There's so much tension between them and it is delicious.

They are just so painfully awkward! Especially once Shen Wei has given up even lying well. Darlings.
