Sunday Six, and some self-justification

The problem with being committed to writing quite intense hurt/comfort for an extremely powerful character is all the build-up you have to do to justify why/how someone (not Ye Zun) actually managed to hurt him.
And hope your readers don't notice you're sometimes mostly bullshitting because THIS IS THE SCENARIO I WANT TO WRITE, GDI.
I think, though, my main conclusion is that people who want Shen Wei h/c are also probably willing to overlook this issue. I definitely am when reading. (Also in canon he did get knocked out by Butler Wu's son simply hitting him very hard, because he didn't see the attack coming. So he's clearly somewhat vulnerable to being taken by surprise. Like by random Dixingren with slightly nebulously described powers...)
I do also really enjoy being in a fandom with such vaguely definedmagic definitely-scientific dark energy. I have so many slightly weird ideas for things to do with it that I'm sure I can justify at least to the level of the show's justification for anything that happens.

I basically couldn't sleep all night. I got up at 6 and have been vaguely writing since then, since clearly this is a punishment from the Word Gods for not writing yesterday and I must appease them. Have an early-in-the-day Sunday Six. (I love this posting day! I have been fighting the urge all week to keep on posting tiny snippets. I'm terrible for wanting instant gratification for my writing.)

When Shen Wei abruptly straightened up and made some forceful jabs with a pen against some of the papers, Zhao Yunlan also shot to his feet and out into the main room. He caught a glimpse of what Shen Wei had drawn — a ring around a location on a map — and looked back in time to catch the dark-amethyst bloom in the air as Shen Wei summoned a portal.
"You —" Zhao Yunlan snarled, and leapt forward, and bunched his fingers into the back of Shen Wei's vest.
The portal dragged him through. And spat them both out together onto a paved space in front of an old garage. Zhao Yunlan stumbled as he landed, bringing them both down in a heap.
"Are you serious right now?" he demanded of Shen Wei, not bothering to get up first.
