This is a fanfic tourney at sg_fic_uoa for both SGA and SG1 along the lines of LFWS, and since I haven't learnt my lesson from that, I've signed up for this one.  It's still a fairly new and small community, so spreading the word never hurts! And I get a skip for it ;)

I don't currently seem to be able to write without an impending deadline, so that's one of the reasons I'm signing up to this.

Hmm... I'm not sure I'd call that concrit/review 'mean' as such; blunt, yes, but definitely not a flame. Flames are the 'OMG THIS SUX' sort of review, rather than someone taking the time to write a paragraph of concrit - try and take it as a compliment that someone's making the effort to point out areas in which they feel you could improve?

EEK! impending deadline... makes me shudder a bit. Do you have exams soon? I noticed you're packing, back to Uni?

Yeah, that review really got to me, most of the bad ones do. I hate concrit, especially a year after I wrote it. I don't like most of the early stuff I wrote anyway.

I started writing my new fic on the 4th. I've got chapters 1-3 and 6 done (it's 7 total in the map, but might turn into 8) 11k so far and growing :) It's nice just to write and write and write, and not have to read what people thought of what you posted yesterday. That has had an influence on output before (ie bad reviews slow me down) (and not having to check it through yet either is a bonus ;))

Yep, three hours on Friday of regurgitating facts about biodiversity. Fun.

I totally understand not liking crit, and I hope I wasn't coming across as overly harsh there. Maybe you could think about getting a beta - then you get the concrit feedback in an environment where no one else ever sees it?

Ick, I still have nightmares about exams even now! (5 years after my final one, which incidently, was on my Birthday! Twas about permafrost and periglacial morphology, like I need that to work in motor insurance!)

Beta's scare me. I just don't like the idea of someone I don't know reading my stuff before anyone else. I know I should, but I'm stubborn like Rodney I suppose. Like it or leave it :P

Yes, this is the fic with Kate in. It's mostly Rodney's mind so far though. It's a rocky and murky, dark place to be after his torture in ReavII... He's slowly getting better though, he just needs to be prodded in the right direction sometimes XD
