End of year meme, RL version

Now that I'm back from holiday in the wild reaches of the Cotswolds (well, kind of excessively civilised really) and about to head off to a New Year party, let's do this!

What did you do in 2016 that you'd never done before?
GOT MARRIED, became a real-life teacher

Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Well I haven't learned to drive, become organised, or got better at housework...

Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not really -- one of the teachers at my school had a baby last month though!

Did anyone close to you die?
Not that I knew personally

Which countries did you visit?
...The North?

What would you like to have in 2017 that you lacked in 2016?
Less existential dread and more sleep

What dates from 2016 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I got married on 6th August!

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Passing my PGCE! And I got Firsts on all the Masters-level modules which were part of that (which I can put towards my Masters degree).

What was your biggest failure?
Turns out suddenly being a line manager for 5 adults much older than me is not my greatest strength. Argh. I'm working on it.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
This last term I've had one cold/bronchitis episode after another. And I had a pretty awful period of depression in the spring, during which I nearly ruined my coursework, but the uni were wonderful.

What was the best thing you bought?
Gorgeous, gorgeous brown Doc Marten boots with roses on which I wore with my wedding dress. Also one of those stupid white trees from hobbycraft which has made me so happy to continually decorate.

Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Bloody everything to do with politics.

Where did most of your money go?
Rent and WEDDING.

What were you really, really, really excited about?
Getting a job as a teacher in my old SEN school!

What song will always remind you of 2016?
I'm... really unsure. I didn't really branch out at all in terms of music. I guess the songs from Moana?

Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) Happier or sadder? Happier, last year I was really worried about my future
b) Bigger or smaller? *shrug*
c) Richer or poorer? Richer, since I have an income again!

What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing, editing

What do you wish you'd done less of?
Mess around on the internet?

How did you spend Christmas?
E and I went on a wonderful holiday -- just the two of us in a little cottage in the Cotswolds with a log fire. It was absolutely perfect.

What was your favorite month of 2016?
August! I met [personal profile] sholio and Petra, both of whom flew around the world for our wedding, and sholio and I did our ridiculous mini-road-trip while dead of exhaustion and we went to nineworlds.

Did you fall in love in 2016?
With Julian Bashir.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Yup.

What did you want and get?
A job!

What did you want and not get?
Hope for our collective global future

What did you do on your birthday?
I can't even remember...

What kept you sane?
Knitting, mostly!

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy admire the most?
Hillary Clinton

What political issue stirred you the most?
HahahahahahaSOB

Who did you miss?
Grandpa Ian, and some friends who've moved away.

Who was the best new person you met?
The teacher who's my NQT mentor. She's wonderful. And the kids in my class, who are hilarious and amazing.

What song lyric sums up your year?
as the world comes to an end
I'll be here to hold your hand
cos you're my king and I'm your lionheart
